21st Century Software Simplifies Data Center Design

Calgary, Alberta: Ice Edge Business Solutions will be demonstrating Data Centers on ICE® at the National Electrical and Contractors Association (NECA) Tradeshow in Boston, October 3-5, 2010.  Exhibiting along with Spider Agile Technology, a manufacturer of plug and play power systems, Ice Edge will be introducing a beta version of Data Centers on ICE.

Until now, engineers and designers have relied on 20th century technology for designing and laying out data centers, command and control environments, server rooms and general wiring and cabling needs. Data Centers on ICE is an open-ended tool that allows users to easily specify and lay out cabling paths for wire management, scalable data cabinets, racks and rack components, air handling equipment, plumbing and raised floor layouts. The gaming technology underlying ICE provides a real-time 3D experience, allowing for viewing and editing in 3D as well.

Software developers at Ice Edge have worked closely with data center designers to gather information and provide feedback. In response, features such as parametrically-scaled HVAC systems and user-defined ducting have been added to facilitate the design process. ICE looks for ways to rationalize cable layout and make the best use of space. Wire management systems such as ladder racks or fiber and basket trays can be drawn using patented i-line technology allowing for easier, quicker layouts. The reaction from users has been enthusiastic. This is their first experience of a design and specification tool like ICE and their immediate response has been, “I want this software!”

Visit the Spider Agile Technologies booth #438 at the NECA tradeshow to learn more about this revolutionary software and its application in data center management.
